Yesterday the 64th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) fired the starting pistol. During 10 days filmophiles will have the opportunity to enjoy various feature films, documentaries, shorts and retro classics from all over the world.
For COVEN BERLIN‘s co-founder Judy Mièl this is a particularly special edition as she will celebrate her Berlinale debut as video editor with the short TransAction (feat. Kay Garnellen, Emy Fem and Sadie Lune). TransAction will be shown along with other 6 shorts in the frame of the series Fucking Different XXY.
For the sixth time since 2005 producer and project initiator Kristian Petersen has asked gay and lesbian filmmakers from various places to make short documentaries and fiction films, in which a lesbian takes on gay topics and the other way around.
In Fucking Different XXY seven transgender filmmakers have made short films about aspects of sexuality which are alien to them. It intends finally to dissolve the binary of classic gender identities, to overturn stereotypes about the ‘other’ and what’s ‘normal’ – stereotypes the queer community cannot absolve itself of. The result is a mixture of colorful and diverse documentary contributions from pornographic filmmakers such as Buck Angel, Mor Vital and experimental approaches by J Jackie Baier and Gwen Haworth, who both come from a documentary background.
Fucking Different XXY will premiere on the 12th of February and can be seen as well on the 13th and 14th. For more information about the Berlinale program, tickets and venues visit the official website.
